Why I Want to Be Part of the Military Police
Other than wanting to serve my country, I do have other plans contingent upon my relief of duty from the United States Army. But my plan is to build a strong basis for that relief.
So in the meantime, I would like to embellish my resume, not only with the service to my country, but with experience that will allow me to do an excellent job in the position I intend to fill. And being a MP officer seems like the best choice.
The Experience That Comes with Military Police
Now, with being an MP comes the experience I need in order to be a solid agent on the domestic side.
Before I even thought about joining the military, I always thought that military police did two things: base gate security and holding the enlisted soldiers and officers accountable to any criminal action they should be held responsible for. Not the case. They do so much more, such as:
- Taking down high-risk targets
- Area damage control
- Cordon and search operations
- Route reconnaissance (recon)
- Protecting VIPs
- Protecting/escorting convoys
- And, yes, kicking down doors!
In addition, the MP conducts extremely thorough and intense investigations ranging from on-base crime to terroristic actions in the Middle East.
Now, as an uniformed law enforcement branch of the United States Army, the MP conduct such investigations, but the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command (USACIDC or CID) may also conduct such investigations. However, both entities report to the Provost Marshal General.
They’re responsible for much more than I thought. They deserve much respect for not only serving their country, but upholding the law.
Police Intelligence Operations
The MP have engaged in war since WWI and will continue to do so until Utopia actually exists. Ultimately, their tasks, as previously mentioned, have been, and continue to be, one integrated function: police intelligence operations.
This integrated function is separated into three disciplines:
- Security and mobility support operations
- Police operations
- Detention operations
What I Was Considering
My plan B was to try to work for a Sheriff’s office. But considering my options, I still want to serve my country and the people of the United States of America. Being a MP officer would mean so much more to me in the long run compared to being a Sheriff’s deputy.
Please, do not get me wrong. Sheriff’s deputies deserve the same amount of respect as any other man or woman on the planet. They literally deploy every single day and put their lives on the line in the similar fashion that military personnel do.
For me personally, serving in the military means more because the military simply runs in my family and through my veins. If, god forbid, I was unable to serve my country, I would pursue a career as a sheriff’s deputy.
The End Goal
Ultimately, I have the end goal of becoming a federal agent with the FBI. All in all I believe being a MP officer will give me the absolute best experience I need and want in order to be a federal agent. Being a MP seems like it will open doors (with the handle, not a door ram) that no other job position could possibly offer.
I also have an interest with the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). With my degree being in Criminal Justice, I have learned the criminal justice system, how it works, the history of criminal justice, and so forth.
Additionally, with a background in the field of criminal justice analytics, I’ve been exposed to experiences that have helped me determine that I truly want to work in the criminal justice system. So FBI, here I come.
