Employment after the Military: How to Ensure You’re Marketable

Nov 17, 2017

Once you’ve decided you’re not going to make a career out of the military, you should make sure you’re marketable before leaving the Armed Forces. Though some jobs have a direct connection to civilian jobs, you can’t always look at the job you’re doing in the military as something you’ll be doing as a civilian. […]

My Military Story & Why I Joined the Navy

Nov 16, 2017

I graduated high school in June 1987. I knew for many years, before I even graduated high school, that I was going into the military. I just hadn’t decided what branch I was going to join. My heart and mind had belonged to the Marines for a long time, actually since I had been in […]

21The Need for Discipline in the Military

The Need for Discipline in the Military

Nov 15, 2017

The first time I was deployed to Iraq, I realized the military had lost a lot of its discipline since my time in the Navy from 1988-1995. One of the first things we were taught in boot camp was discipline. We were taught what the military expected from us and when it was expected. Discipline […]

Patriotic Songs: Country Music & the Military

Nov 14, 2017

There’s a lot of music out there that’s been written to show patriotism and support to our military. Many songs are tied to, and recognized for, particular conflicts throughout US history. For example, “Don’t Tread on Me” by the group Metallica was immediately recognized by many after the 9/11 attacks. “We Gotta Get out of […]

The Army’s Blue to Green Program

Nov 13, 2017

The Army’s Blue to Green program was designed to allow airmen, sailors, and marines the ability to transfer to the Army, and it is open to both officers and those who are enlisted. It was put into place when the other military branches were downsizing, and now it lets those servicemembers continue their military career. […]

Nov 10, 2017

A Brief History Our Veterans Day is celebrated each year on November 11th. The history of the day goes back many decades and it was first known as Armistice Day beginning on November 11, 1919. That particular day was the first anniversary commemorating the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 […]

Challenge Coins: A Long-Standing Military Tradition

Nov 9, 2017

Throughout the military, there are many different traditions and the challenge coin has been a long lasting one. It’s a tradition that has been around for over a hundred years. The tradition of the challenge coin began to ensure that members of a unit were actually carrying their unit’s coin. The rules of the challenge […]

26The Unique Lives of Military Parents

The Unique Lives of Military Parents

Nov 8, 2017

When you’re in the military and you have children, things are, by far, much different for those who are civilians. When you think about it, most parents these days have set schedules and that gives them the ability to work things around their schedule. Military parents don’t have a set schedule. They’re at the mercy […]

27My Thoughts on the Bergdahl Case

My Thoughts on the Bergdahl Case

Nov 6, 2017

Veterans, current servicemembers, and most Americans remember back on June 30, 2009, an Army soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, deserted his post and was captured by the Taliban. The circumstances of how he was captured by the Taliban are still under great scrutiny. He was later released by the Taliban after, then President Barack Obama, arranged for […]
