The Most Dangerous Jobs in the Military

The Most Dangerous Jobs in the Military

Posted by Ashley Gebert |

The military as a whole is dangerous. It does not matter what your MOS is or where you’re at; it’s dangerous. Why do you think only 1 percent of Americans have the courage to put on a military uniform, lace up a pair of boots, load a weapon, and stand up to fight for freedom? The first part, boot camp, is dangerous enough and tough to make it through. How about trying to make it through the mentally and physically challenging EOD school, Ranger school, infantry school, and cavalry scout school?

Initial Success or Certain Failure

Initial success or certain failure is the motto of the EOD. It’s true that you get one chance to disarm an explosive, and if you don’t have success from the start, you probably won’t live through it. The pressure an EOD technician is under is unimaginable. They walk into buildings and find whole rooms full of explosives bound by something unknown. When you see an EOD suited up and running, try and keep up because things are about to get real bad. The IED has contributed to more deaths in OIF and OEF then any other means. If it were not for the EOD teams, there would be far more deaths. Roll EOD!

They Are Special

It doesn’t matter whether I’m a Navy SEAL, Green Beret, Ranger, Marine force recon, or para-rescue. The special operations team members are elite by far. A special operations member goes through a lot of mentally and physically straining training. Can you imagine having to board a helicopter at a moment’s notice and travel to the unknown, sliding down the rope into a fire fight to eliminate an enemy? The special operations soldier trains for direct action, and most of them have been wounded in action but still keep coming back. They conduct missions that will risk their lives just to eliminate an enemy and save others’ lives. They will remain behind enemy lines for days and stay in harm’s way. These members of the military are elite, and they’re called “special operations” for a reason.

The Queen of Battle

The infantry is the queen of battle. The warriors of the infantry will always be the first ones in and last ones out. We will never win a battle without our queen. The warriors of the infantry will storm a beach and patrol a hostile village with nothing but a weapon and a canteen of water. More infantrymen have died in war than any other MOS. The infantryman is a well-trained and disciplined soldier who is fearless and has the heart of a lion—full of courage. They will land in any combat zone ready and willing to die for freedom. The infantry has and always will be the reason we will remain free. The battle starts and the infantry is out the door.

“Hail O’ Hail O’ Infantry Queen of battle!”

The Stetson and Spurs

The cavalry scout and its history goes back further than the 1700s. They are our forward reconnaissance and security patrol. They are the eyes and ears of the battlefield. The scout is often called upon to take on enemy forces and hold a territory against an enemy even while they’re vastly outnumbered. They will provide intelligence that will lead to winning a battle and winning a war. The scout is a combination of infantry and intelligence. Without them we will never win a battle or a war. They will always be right with the infantry as the “first ones in, last ones out!”

These are without doubt the most dangerous jobs in the military. The courage and commitment they need to go into battle and win is the reason we are 2-0 in world wars, and it’s the reason we will win the war against any enemy. The warriors of these military occupations are what the military is all about. Thank you all for your service, sacrifice, and courage to do the most dangerous jobs in the military.
