The America I Believe In
Today I’m sharing what my niece wrote about America. I am one proud uncle. My nieces have been there for me through injury and pain. They have been there through health and sorrow. We will always be more then nieces and uncle; we will be friends. My sincere thanks for what they written and done for me and for veterans abroad. Here’s an article about America by my niece Amber Howard!
The America I Believe In
A previous President once said, “We don’t believe in a small America. We believe in a big America—a tolerant America, a just America, an equal America—that values the service of every patriot.” The military plays a very important role in us holding on to our rights and freedoms. Our country and those who protect it deserve respect. Although there are many opinions, the America I believe in has high expectations for rights, respect, and freedom.
First, the America I believe in holds our rights at a high regard. In America, we have so many rights. We have the right to have our own thoughts and opinions. We have the right to vote when we turn eighteen. We have the ability to hit someone back if they hit us. Also, we have the ability to do almost anything we want. Another right we have is we can work anywhere we want as long as we know what we are doing. We have the right to buy anything we want or need. We have the ability to live wherever and however we please. We can eat anything and everything we want. We also have the ability to practice the religion we believe in. We wouldn’t have any of these rights if it weren’t for the people who are fighting and who have fought for us.
Second, the America I believe in has a lot of respect. One way to show respect is by not saying rude or mean things. You should also act like you have some sense when you are in public. When you act like you don’t have any sense, people think you have issues. You always need to give good eye contact and listen when someone is talking to you. You should take the National Anthem seriously. The National Anthem stands for the people fighting for us. Think about it; people lost their lives fighting for us to have the respect we have. People in their family are hurting, and when you disrespect the National Anthem, people lose their respect for you. Also, don’t talk during the moment of silence. The moment of silence lets people thank and remember their family members that lost their lives fighting for us. It’s about respecting the people who are fighting for us today. You need to use your manners when you are talking to someone. When you don’t use your manners, other people don’t want to use their manners either. You don’t need to say rude and hateful things when you are talking to the people who are fighting or have fought for us. Saying rude things to other citizens is disrespectful. You really need to remember not to talk back to anyone, especially not your elders. Our elders didn’t grow up back-talking people, so we don’t need to back talk them. You also always need to stand with your hand on your heart when you’re saying the pledge. The pledge is extremely important to the people in the military. It is another thing that we say and do to respect the people that are and were in the military. We do a lot of things to remember the people in the military. The people in the military are the most important people out there on this Earth.
Finally, the America I believe in has many freedoms. One freedom we have is we can do things whenever and however we want. We can’t take that for granted though because we can’t do absolutely everything we want, and I’ll give one example. We can say anything we want, but we can’t walk into a movie theater and yell fire because then you could possibly get arrested. But we can marry any person we please to. Nobody can tell us who we can and who we can’t marry. No one can stop us from marring the person we want.
If you don’t want to do something, you have the freedom to choose not to do it. There are some things that you have to do or you could get in big trouble for not doing them. For example, you can’t break the law. If you break the law, you can get arrested and go to jail. We also have the freedom to go anywhere and everywhere we want to. If you choose to travel somewhere outside of the United States, all you have to do is get a passport. You are also allowed to teach your kids the way you choose to. People can’t sit here and tell you how you have to teach your kids. It’s your choice on how you teach your kids. We all have many safety rules and laws in our country. The reason we have those safety rules and laws is because everyone wants everyone to be safe rather than sorry. The main reason we have these freedoms is because of the people that fought and are fighting for us. Most of these freedoms we wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for those people in the military.
In conclusion, despite the problems we face as a nation, the America I believe in still stands strong on rights and freedoms. It still demands the respect and freedoms of a strong, honorable military force. The America we live in today wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the people who fought and are fighting for us. The America I believe in is wonderful and very beautiful. This is why I love the America I believe in.
Thank you,
Amber Howard
